Somalia’s president appoints new prime minister

MOGADISHU (Sh.M.Network)— Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud on Saturday named a political beginner as his new prime minister and tasked him with steering the nation back to stability and law and order.

Abdi Farah Shirdon better known as Saaid, was named at Villa Somalia, with officials and MPs as well as the Somalia’s parliament speaker Hon. Mohamed Osman Jawari.

Mr. Shirdon, a businessman based in Kenya for last 20 years, replaces Abdiweli Mohamed Ali, former Somalia’s Transitional Federal Government (TFG) prime minster whose term in office expired on August 20, 2012.

The new elected Somali PM is expected to form his cabinet ministers within one month, beginning from parliament approval date.

He is married to Asha Haji Elmi, Somali MP.
