Somali security forces conduct operations in Mogadishu, 4 killed

MOGADISHU (Sh. M. Network)- Somali security forces began carrying out purge operations in Mogadishu to tighten security of the capital which is now preparing to hold parliamentary and presidential elections.

The special security forces of Somali government launched on Saturday search operations, focusing on neighborhoods in Mogadishu’s’ Hodon district, where elements affiliated with or sympathetic to Al-Shabaab are suspected to be hiding out.

“Joint forces are conducting large-scale searches of homes, pedestrians and cars, a resident in Hodon district, told Shabelle Media by phone, adding that 4 gangs dead killed and two were captured alive during the operations.

This is the largest operation conducted by joint forces in the capital since Somali Transitional Federal Government forces and AMISOM took control of Mogadishu and nearby areas after Al-Shabaab was driven out of the capital in August 2011.
