Somali president, speaker visit Baidoa town

BAIDOA (Sh.M.Network)—Somalia’s newly elected president Hassan Sheikh Mohamud and parliament speaker Mohamed Osman Jawari have on Monday visited Baidoa town, situated 256 kilometres (159 miles) northwest of the capital Mogadishu.

Residents said Security of the town has been tightened by Somali and Ethiopian troops a head of the president’s arrival. This is the firs visit of its kind since the president was elected in Mogadishu on September 10, 2012.

Both leaders, with several MPs and officials on Monday, paid a surprise visit to the town of Baidoa and held talks high level talks with local elders about the security at the palace.

On February 22, 2012 Ethiopia and the TFG recaptured the town, which is the third largest city in Somalia, and the fourth most important after Kismayo.
