Somali premier takes office

MOGADISHU(Sh.M.Network)— The newly elected Abdi Farah Shirdon has officially taken office as the new premier of Somali Federal Republic government following his win of the confidence vote at the parliament on Wednesday in Mogadishu.

A crowning well-organised ceremony held on Thursday at Villa Somalia, the presidential palace in the capital, with top government leaders, including President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, Abdi Farah Shirdon, and Somalia’s new PM took the helm from former TFG Prime Minister Abdiweli Mohamed Ali Gaas, whose government expired on August 20, 2012.

Former Somali PM Abdiweli Mohamed Ali addressed officials at the power take over ceremony in Mogadishu, saying he has done momentous work to become Somali more stable, fought corruption and Al shabab during his time in office.

For his par, Somali president Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, praised Abdiweli Mohamed Ali for his hard work and succeeding a lot in the past and asked to collaborate sincerely with his successor Abdi Farah Shirdon, to accomplish his duty.

“I congratulate Prime Minister Shirdon and encourage him to form an effective government so that he can gain momentum in completing the critical tasks ahead during the next four years,” said Somali president.

However, the new government will strive for unity and combat the long standing instability challenges facing the war-torn horn nation.
