Somali parliament gathers to prepare the presidential elections

MOGADISHU (Sh.M.Network)—-Somalia’s newly set up parliament is gathering in Mogadishu, to prepare the presidential elections, the latest bid to end two decades of instability in the Horn of Africa nation.

The new speaker Prof. Mohamed Osman Jawari and his two deputy speakers are Chairing the session, which is held at the police training academy in Mogadishu under AMISOM protection, to structure an electoral commission to vote for the powerful position of the post-transition president of Somalia, with more than 20 presidential hopefuls.

“Today we are gathering for the first time here in Mogadishu, to appoint a panel for the upcoming election of the president,” a lawmaker told Shabelle Media. “Everything is ready for the process.”

He said it is a key step in setting up a fresh government for the war-torn country.
