MOGADISHU (Sh.M.Network)—A Somali journalist has died of wounds suffered when he was shot more last week in front of his house in Mogadishu by unidentified gunmen, family and colleagues announced Sunday night.
Mohamed Mohamud Turyare,22, a young and talented webmaster and program producer for the independent Shabelle Media Network station based in Mogadishu since 2010, died at Madine Hospital on Sunday night at about 8:15 P.M local time.
On evening Sunday, 21 October, last week he Mr. Turyare received gun shot wounds and at least three bullets hit him in the abdomen near his house in Hawo Tako neighborhood of Wadajir district by unidentified assailants who escaped from the shooting area uncaught.
He was admitted at Madine hospital, where he underwent abdomen surgery. Turyare’s condition had improved following the surgery.
The death of Mohamed Mohamud Turyare brought the number to 17 Somali journalists killed this year, most in targeted attacks by unknown gunmen.
