Baladweyne (Sh.M.Network)—Witnesses say a heavy blast has rocked on Wednesday Somalia’s central volatile city of Beledweyne, located some 350 Km north east Mogadishu, leaving one dead and another injured.
Ahmed Osman, a security official, told Shabelle Media Network by phone from Beledweyne that a remote-controlled land mine was targeted a military convoy carrying Ethiopian troops.
In the aftermath of the explosion, Ethiopian troops have opened fire on nearby people, killing one civilian and wounding another, according to the sources who spoke with Shabelle Media under anonymity.
‘The attack happened at about 1:00 pm local time on Wednesday as some of the forces were on routine patrol in the city,’ said a witness. ‘One innocent passerby was instantly killed and one other was also seriously injured in an indiscriminate fire by Ethiopian troops.’
No group has yet claimed responsibility for the attack.
Since Ethiopian troops arrived in the town earlier last year, blasts and assassinations have been on the rise as local residents report.
