One protestor killed, two injured in Afgoye district

Mogadishu (Sh. M. Network)- At least one demonstrator was confirmed killed and two more others wounded in Afgoye district, located about 30 Km on the outskirts of Mogadishu, Somalia capital, after clashes with Somali army, Reports said.

Witnesses said unknown gunmen dressed in Somali military uniform have opened fire on hundreds of demonstrators taking part at peaceful protests in the town, killing one protestor and injuring two others who were taken to the hospital.

On Friday, hundreds of people, carrying banners have taken to the streets in Afgoye, some 30 kilometers north-west Mogadishu, to show their defiance against many barricades placed on the road links the town to Mogadishu by the government.

Abdullahi Ahmed, the district commissioner of Afgoye for TFG, voiced concern over the incident and called for prompt investigations.

The African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM) and Somali forces had seized the town of Afgoye from the Al Qaeda-linked al Shabaab insurgents on 28 May 2012.

The corridor northwest of Mogadishu is believed to hold 400,000 internally displaced people, the largest such concentration in the world, with some access to aid.
