Officials: Somali forces detain suspected Al Shabab members in Afgoye

AFGOYE (Sh. M. Network)— Forces loyal to Somalia government on Saturday conducted search operations in Afgoye district, 30 Km outside the capital, Mogadishu, witnesses said.

Local residents told Shabelle Media Network that about 100 people in connection with Al shabab militants have been apprehended by Somali security forces during two day search operations.

“The suspects, in their mid-twenties, were seized during cordon and search operations undertaken by a joint security team made up of Somali forces jailed at several prisons in the town for questioning” a resident said.

During the operations young people are reported to have stayed at home fearing from arbitrary arrest, according to the reports.

Security officials emphasized that the primary goal of those security crackdowns were to ensure and guarantee the security of Afgoye inhabitants.
