Kenyan military came under attack in Gedo,Southwestern Somalia

ELWAQ (Sh.M.Network)—Witnesses say armed groups have attacked Sunday the Kenyan military forces in the southwestern region of Gedo, 620 Km south of the capital Mogadishu.

The attack took place when the gunmen assaulted on a convoy belonged by the Kenyan army serving in the African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM) in Elwaq town close to the border between Somalia and Kenya, reports said.

It was immediately unclear whether there has been any casualty in the ambush.

The Kenyan forces warded off the attack and carried out crackdown in the area they have been attacked and arrested untold number of people in connection with the attack.

Kenyan officials were unavailable to reach for comments on the combat.

On 31 May 2012,  the African Union (Kenyan forces) and Somali government troops captured the city, as Al-Shabab abandoned the town without fighting.
