MOGADISHU (Sh.M.Network)—A colorful inauguration ceremony of Somalia’s new president Hassan Skeikh Mohamud, held Sunday in the capital Mogadishu, with leaders from the international community, mainly east African presidents.
There was Tight security in Mogadishu on Sunday amid world leaders, including Djibouti president Ismail Omar Gelle, Ethiopia’s new PM Hailemariam Desalegn and Turkish deputy prime minister Baker Bozdag, arrived in the capital for the take over ceremony.
Professor Mohamud, a lecturer and a social activist, won 190 votes in the election on Monday, last week against Sheik Sharif Sheikh Ahmed, who won 79 by the legislative secret vote in Mogadishu.
The taker over ceremony comes four days after President Hassan Skeikh Mohamud escaped from an assassination bid by Al shabab militants on his second day at Jazeera hotel near Mogadishu airport.
The attempt on Mohamud’s life underlines the sombre security challenges that he faces as he takes the office of Somalia that has lacked a stable government since 1991.
