Public transport drivers shuttling in Dharkeenley neighbourhood in south west Mogadishu are reporting that illegal check points which were dismantled under a recent order by the Somali president have re emerged in that district again.
The drivers, who spoke to Shabelle, say that militias manning these check points charge public transport busses excessive extortions and are calling the authorities to take actions in dismantling them again.
In a meeting with all district commissioners earlier this month, the Somali president Hassan Sheikh Mohamud has ordered that all illegal check points in the capital should be removed and that call by the president was largely implemented and it was a call widely appreciated by residents in the city who were
harassed daily at those check points by unruly armed militias.
These re-erected illegal check points or locally known as (isbaaro) in Dharkeenley breach the call by the president which received a very wide public reception.
