BELEDWEYNE (Sh. M. Network)-Deadly clashes broke out between somali government troops and fighters belonging to Ahlu Sunna Waljama’a (ASWJ) in central Somalia, reports said.
The fighting, which raged on for hours erupted on Wednesday afternoon at Mataban district, after Somali government forces attacked on positions manned by ASWJ fighters over unknown circumstances.
On Thursday, ASWJ fighters are reportedly arrested a number of clerics and elders in the town following the combat and the reason behind the move is yet unclear, according to local residents.
ASWJ, pro-government fighters in south and central the country and they have been working closely with Somali government in the war on Al shabab militants.
Tense of fighting is reported mounting in the town as both sides sending reinforcement forces into the battle.
Neither the government nor ASWJ has made any comments of the battle.
