There have been sporadic clashes between two clans near Abud-waq town over access to land and water for several days. The most recent fighting began early Monday.

Local elders have called for calm but that residents are fleeing the area around the town and more gunmen are arriving.

“It’s awful fighting and tension is still high so I call for prompt action,” an elder said by telephone.

Thirteen people were wounded in the fighting, said a nurse in the main hospital in Abud-waq town, controlled by pro-government Ahlu Sunna Waljama’a (ASWJ) fighters.
