Calm returned to southern Mogadishu after battle

MOGADISHU (Sh. M. Network)—Calm returns to Mogadishu’s southern Ex-control Afgoye checkpoint, after heavy fighting Somali forces clashed with Al shabaab fighters on Wednesday night.

Ahmed Yare, a Somali military official said the public movement and business have restarted on Thursday normally as the troops maintain security. Mogadishu enjoys peace and stability as the country prepares to hold its first Federal presidential elections on September 10 for more than 20-years.

“The Al Qaeda-linked Al shabab militants have launched a coordinated attack on Somali army checkpoint at Ex-control area, sparking hours of face-to-face fighting that raged for several hours late last night,” he added.

So far, The casualty figures in the combat have not been established by the Somali government officials who are in control of the capital.
