AMISOM: We assure Al shabab fighters of their safety if they give themselves up

MOGADISHU (Sh.M.Network) —The spokesman of the African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM) Col. Ali Aden Houmed, urged the fighters remaining in Al shabab to cease fighting and give themselves up to the coalition forces.

“We urge all the fighters still remaining in Al shabab to lay down their arms. We have assured them of their safety if they give themselves up to our forces,” he said at a press conference in Mogadishu on Thursday.

The Somali National Army (SNA) along with  Kenyan army in the UN-backed African Union mission in Somalia have secured last weekend the southern port of Kismayo, 500 Km south of Mogadishu following two months of offensives with Al shabab militants.
