A well-known Elder shot dead in Somalia’s port city Kismayo

KISMAYO (Sh.M.Network)— Assailants in Somalia’s port city of Kismayo,500 Km south of Mogadishu, have gunned down a prominent Elder on Thursday night, the latest in series of killings since Al shabab abandoned the city early this month, reports said.

Hassan Sheikh, the elder was killed by two unknown men armed with pistols as he was sitting down in front of his house located at the former meat factory in the city after Maqrib prayer, according to witnesses.

 

“The attackers were armed with pistols and shot the elder for several times in the head, killing instantly at the spot,” a resident who asked anonymity, told Shabelle Media Network station by phone, adding that the motive is yet unclear.

 The killers have immediately escaped from the area after the murder and no one was arrested in connection of the killing by Somali and Kenyan forces who are now controlling the city.

No group has so far claimed the responsibility of the killing in Kismayo.

Kismayo, once Al shabab stronghold seaside city in south of the country is witnessing a security vacuum that seems deteriorating in each passing day.
